An 8- Year Survival Rate of Implant- Retained Mandibular Overdenture from the Royal Dental Implant Project
Objectives: The study aims to evaluate the 8-year survival rate of implant-retained mandibular over denture in the royal dental Implant project and to assess the patients’ satisfaction.
Materials and Methods: The study was retrospective descriptive study. The total of 84 edentulous elderly patients, age > 60 years treated with implant-retained mandibular over denture at Phrae hospital were retrospectively examined since 2010 until 2018.
Patients’ clinical data and panoramic radiographic findings were recorded. All patients were treated with 2 mandibular implants combining complete denture. Survival rate and satisfaction score were evaluated using t-test and Mann Whitney U test.
Results: Among 84 patients, 59 were male and 25 were female with a mean age of 75.7±6.2 years. The implant lost was found in 7 patients while 77 patients presented normal chewing ability. Denture fractures were found in15 patients (17.86%), screw fractures were found in 1 patient (1.19%). The average of radiographic marginal bone loss was 1.682±0.825 and 1.59±0.817 at right implant and left implant respectively. Patients’ satisfaction was found most favorable at the 8-year of follow up. The mean survival rate of 8- year follow up was 91.7%
Conclusions: The survival rate of the Implant- retained mandibular overdenture from the Royal Dental Implant Project was as high as 91.7 % and patients’ satisfaction was relatively high. This could be implied that the project was impressive and our result was consistent with other studies.
